How to cure a coconut cup
Curing your Coconut to make it waterproof.
Apply oil to the inside surface of the shell. We suggest coconut oil. You may use any vegetable oil, linseed oil or food grade mineral oil. Apply 3 to 6 coats, 3 days apart. Then add a coat of beeswax. After using your cup, hand wash, dry well and allow to dry. To maintain, once a month apply another coat of each. You may need to apply more frequently depending how often you use the cup.
Coconuts that are not properly cured will crack if you fill with liquid. Extreme temperatures will also cause cracking.
Because coconuts are a product of nature, their durability and longevity cannot always be predicted.
